Two more soldiers added

9th October '14

Today two more names have joined the Rutland list of the Fallen. One of them, Charles Gilby, has been brought to our attention from a site user, Paul Sanders. Charles was born and brought up in Oakham before moving to Northamptonshre. He died in battle but does not appear to be remembered anywhere in his home County. Neither does he feature in Rutland and the Great War. But he was a Rutlander like all the rest and should be honoured for his sacrifice. Read about him here and how we came to find out about him. Another name added to our list is Henry Bagshaw. He actually died after the war from ill-health due to gas poisoning. His story was discovered by Paul and David Bland, authors of Greetham and the Great War. We think he also deserves a place in our collective memory. Which means the total of Rutland dead, including those boys of Oakham School who came from other parts of the country, now stands at 607. But already we know of another soldier, who also died after the war, and had also suffered ill health from being gassed. More about him soon as we collect all the information.
