Known information

Private Francis Dalby from the 3rd Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment was the son of John and Selina Dalby of Greetham, where he was born on 28 October 1897. He worked at the Cottesmore Ironstone Mines before enlisting on 10 June 1918. Francis did not serve abroad. He died after the war ended, in 1st Northern General Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne on 3 January 1919 in the great 'flu epidemic which swept Europe. Francis was buried in Greetham Churchyard and has a Commonwealth War Graves Commission headstone.
