Essendine mystery solved

23rd July '14

Many thanks to site user Camilla Brandal for solving some of the mystery surrounding George Moor of Essendine. Camilla used Canadian and CWGC records to show George is wrongly named on the plaque in Essendine Church and was able to discover some details about his life. To us, this is what the site’s about – individuals across the County helping to build a picture of our soldiers. George Moor wasn’t mentioned by George Phillips in his Rutland and The Great War and we only knew about him at all by visiting Essendine Church and seeing the plaque. Now Camilla has made him far more than a name for which we are grateful.
