About

The Cemetery was built in 1962 in the grounds of the big British Embassy residential compound in Gulhek, 13 miles from the centre of Tehran. There are 412 burials of the First World War. Because of the political situation, special arrangements have to be made to visit. These can be done through the Iran desk of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The CWGC website, see link at the top of the page, has up to date information.

Rutland and The Battle of the Somme

More than 90 Rutland soldiers died in the Battle of the Somme which lasted from 1 July 1916 until the middle of November. Today they lie in cemeteries across the old battlefield in northern France or are remembered among the 72,000 names on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme. By using our interactive map, you can find out what happened to them.
