This relatively new memorial to Royal Marines musicians killed in the two world wars was opened in 2013. It is in the Band Service Memorial Room at the Royal Marines School of Music in Portsmouth so not open to the public. The memorial has 448 names.

The poppy on the map shows only the approximate location of the School of Music which is within the Royal Navy Dockyard at Portsmouth.

Rutland and The Battle of the Somme

More than 90 Rutland soldiers died in the Battle of the Somme which lasted from 1 July 1916 until the middle of November. Today they lie in cemeteries across the old battlefield in northern France or are remembered among the 72,000 names on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.
