4 images Heading up the A16 towards Boston from the South, the village of Frampton is clearly signposted. At the time of my visit the church of St. Mary The Virgin, Frampton Parish Church was locked, as some vandalism has recently been experienced in the area.I took photographs of this substantial church which was built on the basis of money made from the wool trade: vast quantities of wool were exported to the Continent.A 100metres from the Church, I found a War memorial and garden dedicated to 16 men who gave their lives for King and Country. Reginald Lowe is listed there.

I later telephoned the churchwarden who informed of the following :-* There is an honour board inside the Church. In 2015, " Tower of London " ceramic poppies were purchased with the assistance of the Parish Council : one for each of the listed names. * Three of the honoured men are buried in the churchyard. *There is a small "sister" church of St Michael and All Saints at West Frampton: there is no memorial at that location. * There is a website for the parish churches entitled " Frampton - Wyberton Parish Church." *On each Remembrance Sunday, parishioners process from the Church to the memorial garden. A short service is held and The Last Post is played.

Rutland and The Battle of the Somme

More than 90 Rutland soldiers died in the Battle of the Somme which lasted from 1 July 1916 until the middle of November. Today they lie in cemeteries across the old battlefield in northern France or are remembered among the 72,000 names on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme. By using our interactive map, you can find out what happened to them.
