About

The church overlooks Exton Park and has a number of fine memorials to the Noel family of nearby Exton Hall. There is a Roll of Honour to those who died in the First World War and also a plaque to the memory of Lieutenant Tom Noel MC who fought as a soldier and an airman before being shot down near Ypres. In the churchyard, a family grave also commemorates another First World War soldier, Sergeant Gordon Simpson. Exton also has a Garden of Remembrance next to the village green.

Rutland and The Battle of the Somme

More than 90 Rutland soldiers died in the Battle of the Somme which lasted from 1 July 1916 until the middle of November. Today they lie in cemeteries across the old battlefield in northern France or are remembered among the 72,000 names on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme. By using our interactive map, you can find out what happened to them.
